What Redakt scans, what stays local, and what you should review.
Does Redakt upload my documents anywhere?
No. Document processing is 100% local. Your files are opened, scanned, and redacted in your browser; their contents are not sent to Redakt, an AI provider, or any other external service.
The app and its local models are downloaded over the internet on first use. After that initial download, scanning and redacting can also work without an internet connection.
Does Redakt scan more than the visible page text?
Yes. In supported Word and Excel files, Redakt can inspect tables, headers, footers, comments, document properties, link targets, formulas, sheet names, charts, and drawing text—not only the main body.
Local OCR can also read scanned PDF pages and images embedded in Office documents. You still review every finding before Redakt changes the file.
What is the difference between “Confirmed” and “Possible” findings?
Confirmed findings include email addresses, custom phrases you define, and validated IBANs, Turkish ID numbers, and credit card numbers.
Possible findings include phone numbers and names, organizations, or locations detected by the local language model. We recommend checking these manually.
You can change selections in both groups before redacting. Review the findings before applying any redactions.
Which file formats are supported?
Redakt supports DOCX, XLSX, PDF, UTF-8 TXT, JPG, and PNG files.
For scanned PDFs without a text layer and images embedded in Office documents, local OCR can read Turkish and English text.
Recognition accuracy may decrease with handwriting, blur, or low-quality images.
Can I upload more than one file at a time?
Yes. You can select multiple files or an entire folder at once.
Files are processed sequentially to protect browser performance. You can track each file separately and cancel individual files or the whole batch.
Can I add my own list of words, names, or custom phrases?
Yes. You can define custom rules manually or import a bulk list from an Excel file.
Put the phrase to find in column A and the replacement value in column B.
Your imported list is stored only in your browser. Matching phrases appear under Confirmed findings and can be replaced with the values you specify.
Can Redakt process large files and thousands of rows?
Yes. Large files are processed in chunks in the background to keep the browser responsive.
You can see progress and an estimated time remaining while processing continues.
For files with more than 1,000 rows, Redakt displays an additional notice that processing may take longer. Total time depends on the file size, its contents, and your device's performance.
